GTCT supporting Libby Winkley in her passion for cycling
Libby Winkley has held cycling as a passion since being very little, having first tried out a balance bike when she wasn’t much more than a year old.
As time progressed, a competitive streak set in and Libby began racing, participating in cyclocross, road and mountain-biking competitively since the age of six.
More recently, Libby has focused on road and track, as well as cyclocross, racing.
2025 / 2026 was a particularly good season for Libby in cyclocross, achieving top-ten finishes in every stage in her first season of National racing as a first year U14.
This year has also been fantastic on track and road for her, with Geraint Thomas Cycling Trust support enabling her to take part in races.
Libby has earned podium finishes on four occasions, coming third in the Youth Omnium R1 Glasgow, third in the Youth Omnium R2 Wolverhampton, second in the Youth Omnium R4 Middlesbrough and second in the Scarborough National Circuit and National Championships; all this being backed up by four other top-ten finishes already this season.
Additionally, Libby won the Otley Town Centre Crit this year and came third at Ilkley.
On the track, the grant has enabled her to take part in the national Omnium series, coming 8th in the U14 girls Omnium finals at Lee Valley on 11 July.
“Without the support of GTCT,” her mother, Jennie, told us, “which is supporting with her entry fees, she would not have been able to compete in so many national races.”
