Geraint Thomas Cycling Trust hold first fundraising dinner

Following the Geraint Thomas Cycling Trust’ launch in October 2021, the charity held its first fundraising dinner at the Principality Stadium on the 14th October compered by the brilliant Tom Fordyce.

Geraint Thomas, along with Owain Doull were present for an afternoon of Q&A’s, we also auctioned off two special prizes and the event raised nearly £20,000 for the trust to continue its work in providing more opportunities for young people to enjoy cycling.

Thomas and Doull were also joined by Gower Riders and Whitchurch Cycling club – two clubs who have been the beneficiaries of some of the Trusts’ funding to make a difference in providing opportunities for people within their local communities to cycling.

Gower Riders have been working with the Young Carers Association in conjunction with the YMCA Swansea to put on sessions at Pembrey Country Park where carers can have some time out from the pressures of looking after and caring for family members. Support from the Trust has enabled Gower to fund three sessions so far.

Whitchurch Cycling Club have also been making a difference in their local community in Cardiff. Working with Grange Pavillion, Whitchurch have been putting on sessions to give children within that community to the chance to learn to ride.

Since the launch of the charity in October 2021, the Trust has gone from strength to strength and the fundraising dinner was another important milestone.

Chair of the GTCT, Adrian Coles said: “We had a fantastic inaugural fundraising lunch where we were joined by nearly 120 keen supporters who want to make a positive difference to help more children simply, be able to consistently ride a bike.

“To hear direct from our 1st group of applicants that we have been able to support from Whitchurch Cycling Club, Gower Riders and the Young Carers Association in conjunction with the YMCA Swansea was very humbling.  We are making a positive impact and are looking forward to deploying the funds we have raised to date to help more children access any form of bike discipline.”

We want to thank the Principality Stadium for hosting us on what was a great afternoon and the Park Gate Hotel for the help with the drink’s reception. We also wish to thank our partners – Cycle Solutions, CP Hire, Keri Rees and also for Harlequin Print and Eversheds for their support in making this event a success.
