How LimbPower turns dreams into reality

Life skills, adventures, confidence, growing up; for many young people, learning to ride a bike is a key moment in life, but for children with limb differences, it is too often an inaccessible experience.

LimbPower strives to remove that barrier, change that reality, and bring the joy of cycling to young people with limb differences, through Project Limitless.

Their work offers more than just exercise to these children; it provides new possibilities, boosts mental well-being, and fosters social inclusion and community.

LimbPower achieves this by supporting participants with MITT packages; a MITT is a slip-on-and-go prosthetic arm made up of a soft fabric sleeve and inter-changeable tools.

With their use, families report increased confidence, growing independence, and, for some children, the joy of riding unaided for the very first time.

The opportunity also forms part of a wider cycling pathway with British Cycling, helping young people stay active, adventurous, and included within their communities.

Project Limitless started around 10 months ago and has since provided support to 15 children across the country.

One of these is Matilda who, having previously been unable to ride at all, now cycles confidently alongside her friends and no longer feels left out.

“Having the cycling mitt has enabled me not just to ride my bike but fit in better, be more confident, and most importantly have fun,” Matilda stated.

The Geraint Thomas Cycling Trust is thrilled to have been able to support LimbPower’s vital work, having previously awarded a grant for the organisation to invest in another MITT package.

“The grant has been absolutely vital to LimbPower’s work,” stated LmbPower’s Laura Ball. “IT has enabled us to reach more disabled children and young people, deliver inclusive sporting opportunities, and create lasting impact on the beneficiaries physical health, confidence, and sense of belonging.

“Without support, many of these life-changing opportunities simply wouldn’t be possible. Project Limitless Cycling is about far more than exercise. It creates friendships, builds confidence, and inspires lifelong adventures.

“Thank you for helping us make their dreams a reality!”
